Cookie Policy

What are cookies

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store. They let the site remember things between page loads, like whether you are signed in. Most modern web apps use them.

What Orchid Edge uses cookies for

We keep our cookie use minimal. Right now we use cookies for two things only:

  • Authentication. When you sign in, our authentication system (NextAuth) sets a session cookie so we can recognise you on subsequent requests. Without this cookie, you would have to log in on every page load.
  • Anti-abuse. Our contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA, which sets cookies on its own domain to detect automated submissions. We do not control these cookies; you can read Google's policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

What we do not use cookies for

For clarity, we do not currently use any of the following:

  • Advertising or ad-tracking cookies
  • Cross-site behavioural tracking pixels
  • Third-party analytics that read or write cookies (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, and similar are not installed)
  • Social-media share-tracking cookies

Our analytics use first-party page-view events with a session identifier stored in browser sessionStorage, not in cookies. The session identifier expires when you close the tab.

How long cookies last

  • Session cookies: deleted when you close your browser. Used for the active sign-in.
  • Persistent cookies: stored for up to 30 days, used to keep you signed in across browser restarts. Cleared sooner if you sign out.
  • reCAPTCHA cookies: set and managed by Google. See their policy for current durations.

Your control

You can clear or block cookies at any time through your browser settings. Note that blocking the authentication cookie will prevent you from signing in to Orchid Edge. The marketing pages remain fully accessible without cookies.

Most browsers also offer a private or incognito mode that uses no persistent cookies. Orchid Edge works in private mode for browsing the marketing site; you can sign in too, but you will need to sign in again every time you open a new window.

Changes to this policy

If we add new cookie use, for example a cookie consent banner or third-party analytics, we will update this page and revise the last-updated date at the top. If the change is significant, we will also notify waitlist and account-holder emails.
